The Liberal Democrats have expressed concern that too little progress was being made locally on a government scheme to help pensioners, disabled people and other vulnerable groups insulate their homes and improve domestic heating systems. Mike Popham said "too few households are taking up the offer, many of them pensioners.
It is surprising that with so many pensioners and others in fuel poverty, struggling to keep warm, only a small number have come forward to claim under the Scheme. It saves, on average, almost £200 a year. Even for those pensioners who do not qualify, there are £300 in vouchers, which can be used for heating installation or repairs. Warm Front makes homes warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient.
The Warm Front Grant provides a package of insulation and heating improvements up to the value of £2,700 (or £4,000 if oil central heating is recommended). It is a Government-funded initiative and the scheme is managed by EAGA who can be reached on 0800 316 2805."
