Sir,
Referring to Mike Chappell's incomplete article on the Bristol Blogger about Tenant Management Organisations (February 7, 2009 (2:51 pm), the oldest TMO in Lambeth is Wellington Mills TMC; this was set up by the former Greater London Council 30 years ago, not by Margaret Thatcher!
His comment "Michael Popham, the (Tory) shadow housing spokesman" is a weak distortion of my political beliefs. In 1999, I entered local politics thinking that the Conservative Party believed passionately in people's ability to choose and run their own lives. I very soon realised that the culture inherent in the Tory Party was a few making decisions at arms length to the majority. I was once informed by a senior member of the Tory party that "Governments (Labour) have a tendency to unelect themselves". This political laziness is what has caused the Tory Party, as Her Majesty's Official Opposition, to be equally culpable as the Labour Party for today's credit crunch problems, in particular.
Changing to another political party is not easy, and is not done by the faint hearted. The Lib Dems believe - as I do - in choice for all, not just the priviliged. The day I joined the Lib Dems was the day I began to feel comfortable with my politics.
Follow the party's activity on...
