At the Quality of Life Scrutiny Commission this week, Bristol East Prospective Member of Parliament, Cllr Mike Popham demanded an honest appraisal of Bristol City Council's recycling and composting performance figures. "Although compared to other UK cities Bristol comes out top, at 36.49% this is hardly credible given that the upward trend created by the Lib Dems during our brief 2 years in control has fallen under Labour. That continued upward performance would have been maintained had the Tories not joined with Labour in May 2007 to spoil the Lib Dem programme. On this record, neither the Tories nor Labour can claim any green credentials. Their respective look-green makeovers were always a sham. Our proud City should be compared to the best performing cities in Europe. The Lib Dems should continue on with our programme the Labour and Tory groups jointly stopped, and strive to be the best compared to the best.", Mike said.
